Teaching Artist

ArtSparks is seeking  teaching artists to team-teach year-long dance classes based in the National Dance Institute (NDI) pedagogy for children as part of our in-school (daytime) program. 

 

ArtSparks is an educational outreach organization that provides access to dance and music to children who may not otherwise have the opportunity. The ArtSparks methodology--- rooted in the acclaimed National Dance Institute (NDI) pedagogy)--- inspires excellence and nurtures valuable life skills such as tenacity, problem-solving, teamwork, and self-worth. The ArtSparks teaching team consists of a lead dance teacher/choreographer, assistant dance teacher, and musician who serve as models of excellence and teamwork for the children we serve.

 

Artistic and Educational requirements include:

  • Dance artists with a strong technical and performance background 

  • Passion for their art and for teaching

  • Willingness to learn and train in the National Dance Institute (NDI) pedagogy

  • Enthusiasm with working with children (Pre-K-5th grades)

  • Enthusiasm and comfort level in working with dancers with disabilities

  • Have a commanding presence

  • Have experience creating choreography

 

Logistical requirements include:

  • Ability to make a solid commitment to classes and necessary training meetings during the school day

  • Ability to commute to locations in Summit County for weekly classes

  • Completing a BCI/FBI background check

  • Enthusiasm for ArtSparks mission, values, and teaching methodologies

 

The position is part-time and reports to the Artistic Director. Looking to train and hire immediately for summer training and the 2022-2023 school year (Aug-May).

 

The successful candidate will:

  • Arrive at the classes in a timely manner

  • Respond promptly to communications from the Administrative Team, Music Director, and Lead Teaching Artists

  • Be attentive, engaged, and an active participant during classes

  • Performs every class with energy, enthusiasm, and joy

  • Commit to care for, inspire, and challenge every child in the ArtSparks program

  • Understand developmental needs and adapt and tailor classroom experiences to facilitate the best work from every child

  • Come prepared knowing choreography and class plan as directed by the Artistic Director and Lead Teaching Artists

  • Believe that ALL children are dancers and incredibly capable of success in and through dance
